In World War II, after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, the Americans retaliated by sending out the Doolittle Raiders to bomb areas of Japan, simply there wasn't enough fuel for the fighters to return and so many ended up crash landing in China, an ally in the state of war, and many Chinese took in these Americans and protected them confronting the enemy. The cost was said to be about 250,000 Chinese lives in substitution for the lives of lx something Americans. From my understanding The Chinese Widow, aka In Damage'south Way, is a fictional story congenital effectually those tragic facts. A widow takes in an American pilot and she hides him from both her people and the Japanese soldiers because she believed…

A lot more than what I was expecting from this film. Cute scenery and imagery!

wtf why does this only accept 2 reviews on letterboxd it's great
I have a feeling that this motion-picture show isn't very available to watch anywhere. The only copy I was able to get was a DVD (that was somehow really low quality compared to other DVDs) on Redbox. As well, the audio sounded really compressed in some scenes, but again, that might accept to do with the DVD.

Danish filmmaker Billie Baronial is a two time Cannes Palme D' Or winner for Best Director in 1988 and 1992. Best known to American audiences for directing "Les Miserables", starring Liam Nelson. August returns with his WWII drama romance, released in Britain every bit "The Hidden Soldier," and premiering at the Shanghai International Film Festival every bit "The Chinese Widow". When released in America information technology took on the name "In Harm's Mode", which was also the title to the John Wayne and Kirk Douglas 1965 picture that took place during the same time flow.
Headlined by star Emile Hirsch from "Speed Racer" and "The Girl Next Door", his costar is Chinese actress Liu Yifei (credited here as Crystal Liu), who is poised…

45/100
I felt a weak story, completely tailored with the intention of developing a romance confronting a warlike background.
Seen many times before. And this one has cipher worth mentioning.

A cool depiction of a reality that is rarely known to many people, where many Chinese civilians helped the Americans escape so they would non be caught by the Japanese army. This film uses the graphic symbol of a Chinese widow as the principal grapheme, with the character of the US soldier equally the trigger for disharmonize. Uniquely throughout the film, fifty-fifty though they have difficulty in dialogue considering of language limitations, the chemistry is yet well formed.
Whereas shown, I recall information technology'southward withal not good, apart from the CGI, everything seems to have no trouble. I like their colour gradation which is ever consistent, the collor palette is always maintained in harmony. In terms of acting, I recall Yifei Liu…
